The Opportunity

The Senior Accountant, Development is responsible for the day-to-day Development Accounting and supporting the internal review and approval processes for projects under construction. In this role you will work closely with the construction and finance teams to drive strategic analysis and planning and provide insight to business leaders.

Key Responsibilites

Oversee the overall accounting and financial operations cycle for the development portfolio including but not limited to: bank reconciliations, preparation of reconciliation schedules, loading of financial information to the accounting system, review of monthly construction progress draws

Prepare and file HST returns for developments and support the HST audits for properties under development

Liaise with our JV partners and project managers on projects under construction to ensure all financial and project information is received and up to date

Support in the maintenance of comprehensive project documentation to include a combination of electronic and hard files

Support in compiling, tracking and electronically filing draw submissions on monthly basis. Prepare all documentation required for quantity surveyor

Support a seamless transition from development to operations finance accounting for new openings

Support the quarterly forecast and budget update for each of our projects under construction

Prepare monthly reporting on our development budgets to our key internal stakeholders

Drive and enforce the implementation of new processes, procedures, and controls around developments including: change order management, management of commitments and contracts, benchmarking

What we’re looking for

Bachelor’s degree with a focus on Finance or Accounting

A minimum of three years of experience in an Accounting role

Experience in construction, real estate, or senior living industry

Experience using a job cost module system

Canadian Professional Accounting designation

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with a demonstrated ability to work with large datasets

Excellent interpersonal skills including written, verbal and presentation

Ability to work independently as well as to thrive in a team environment
